Wah Lee Industrial Corp. (3010.TT) announced December 2019 unaudited consolidated sales of NT$4,687M, a growth of 9.90% from last year. The full year 2019 consolidated sales reached NT$54,671M, grew by 3.30% from FY 2018 sales, which set record high again. Under the impacts from macro economy, the operations are still maintained well in the high rank. Focusing on areas such as semiconductor front-end manufacturing processes, PCB high frequency substrates, next generation electronic products, and 5G, biomedical, Electric Vehicles, and energy storage system, Wah Lee has taken development measures that are well-positioned and diversified.
In recent years, multiple camera modules are used in smartphones, plus the demands for camera modules for cars, finger print identifications, and 3D sensing, the demands for the overall camera modules have been very strong. In 2019, most flagship smartphones are equipped with triple cameras. Looking forward to this year, smartphones with 4 camera modules are expected to be mainstream. Media speculates the recent Korean flagship smartphone will be equipped with five cameras.
Chinese optical cameras are gradually growing from the contributions of its local brand smartphones. Chinese mid to downstream camera module manufacturers are gaining market positions. They have the local demands for supports. Wah Lee has been cultivating in the Taiwanese optical application market for many years and has penetrated into famous Chinese optical lens makers. The Chinese optical lens maker has obtained the supply agreement with Korean and Chinese smartphone makers and has become the world leading supplier for camera lenses. This has helped Wah Lee’s optical grade plastics to double its sales this year.
The trend to use multiple camera modules is certain. Triple camera modules have become the standard feature. Wah Lee has cooperated with the original suppliers of materials to keep leading the trend in camera module usage and delivering products that helps camera module makers to have a leading edge. Wah Lee has not only focused the application of smartphones but also penetrated into car use and surveillance systems. Take the car use camera as example, all US new cars are required to equip with ADAS feature and that will entail increasing use of camera modules. The largest supplier of car camera modules is a Chinese player. Therefore, it is expected the sales of Wah Lee’s optical grade materials will grow quarter by quarter in China this year.
